My car already has one.  It's just another system you can turn off like the stupid start/stop thing.

Good article, particularly the explanation of each major point;

"The two clauses causing the most controversy are known as Article 11 and Article 13.

Article 11 states that search engines and news aggregate platforms should pay to use links from news websites.Article 13 holds larger technology companies responsible for material posted without a copyright licence. Tech companies already remove music and videos which are copyrighted, but under the new laws they will be more liable for any copyrighted content. It means they would need to apply filters to content before it is uploaded.

Article 13 does not include cloud storage services and there are already existing exemptions, including parody, which, for example, includes memes."

And once again the EU interfering. Can national governments do this if they feel the need? Yes. Can you remove national governments if they bring in something you don't like? Yes.

The main issue for websites now is yet more legislation and yet more checking of everything in case they do fall foul. Big websites fine, they have a turnover of billions. Small ones?

And SatNavs? The reason why I don't have a Sat Nav on my car is it doesn't need one. I have a phone. This is going to mean extra cost for manufacturers at the bottom of the range who produce cars cheaply.

The cheapest car in the UK is the Dacia Sandero. So cheap it doesn't even come with a stereo in the basic unit. It leaves a hole in the dash and cabling so you can add your own. Price is around £6k. Now this will have to be added.

Again, fine for big business which the EU loves.

Aren't they insisting that all new cars have a speed limiter fitted but it will be up to the driver if the system is turned on..
No problem with that as it's a useful aid to use if required

And this is the one thing i fear as any car with the non compulsory limiter will likely only require a firmware change to be able to render the driver unable to switch it off

I wonder how many said that about compulsory seatbelt wearing back in 83, then later with rear seatbelt legislation?

It will come in by the back door. The EU had the idea of fitting a tracking device so in an accident it reports on the accident to emergency services when it happens.

Nice one.

So all cars get this tracker.

Then your insurance company says, "have it switched on all the time, we need to see you are a safe driver and are speeding."

You say, "no and I don't have to."

Insurance company, "fine, pay a higher premium."

"****"

This will be the same. you can switch it off but if you do you will hit by your insurance company for having it switched off.

One way or another it will be controlling your driving.

Unless you are rich.
