Hi,

This may interest many of you - click here - especially with Christmas coming, and I'm sure some of you wouldn't mind finding this under the Chrimbo Tree on the Big Day from one of your friends/family.

I am after a slipcase version myself, but dithered on the 1st book at around £30 (RRP) and then never seen it again (the one with the lion? animal of somekind on the spine in between the book title and author unless I want to pay £200 .

The other books are all available for £30ish, but I dont want to grab them until I have book 1.

I dont care what imprint it is, I just really like them.

Just noticed this, a man after my own heart (quickly sweeps his paperback versions out of the way) and that means I have decided to buy these instead:

A Storm of Swords: Book 3 of a Song of Ice and Fire - A Song of Ice and Fire 3 (Book) by George R. R. Martin (2011): Waterstones.com

.....as above, I missed Vol 1 and now they are like rocking horse poo and if I want one, will cost me £200.

Going to grab Vol 2 onwards over the next month or so.....

Is anyone going to read them again before the next book comes out. I'm already starting to forgot all the details of what happened in the last book lol.

I may try to read them again before the next series comes out, well at least to halfway through book 3, you do tend to miss a lot of detail in these books on a first readthrough
Such as:

Those kind of things.Missing the symbolism in the first book of the Stag killing the Direwolf.
The foretelling of the Red Wedding in The House of the Undying

Picked up the slipcase editions of 2 and 3 today, man they are lovely. As was the trainee lady at Waterstones that said I had good taste.

I watched the series and enjoyed it. My son (aged 13) likes fantasy books. However, the TV show had scenes which are unsuitable for his age. Are the books similar or should he be OK with them?

I would say absolutely not, but it depends on what you think is acceptable for kids to watch (personally I don't agree with the "let them watch anything" attitude).  If you think the TV show is unsuitable then you'll think the same of the books - they are just as graphic as the TV show

Its not clear from my original post but only my wife and I watched the series. My son saw none of it. I might read the book myself and decide.
