There are some dirt cheap barges out there but with any "classic" check what the major cost for a replacement part, say in the ignition system or lighting or turbo. The old days of tweeking the points or changing the coil for a meagre sum vs £300 or more for a complete coil pack and can only service with a computer can catch the unwary. Unless of course you buy old school or have the means.
Then the availability of parts. Look at items you may well have to change during ownership such as discs or bearings, can you source them. Look at the support through various forums, and online sellers. Not the risk you run on eBay, but full on complete parts for old stuff such as Rover/MG or brake callipers for Jags. They are out there.
Then buy without the rose tinted spectacle and blinkers of shiny. But try yo see if you know someone who knows about the marque to come along or get it assessed in a garage for chases condition etc. Remember an MOT is not proof that is it a good un.
Really really want to get a Mini Cooper myself. Original. But not sure I can fit in it anymore...... |
