How can you make so many episodes about nothing?

What's with TV these days? A story that used to be told in 1 hour and 45 minutes is now 8 x 45 minutes. Literally nothing happens, and I blame myself for keep watching. In the end it becomes like an investment of time, so I just have to see it through.

We know who did it before half way. After that it is just painful to watch. And did I mention that it's a total cliché?
