You can see how this series was green-lighted. The concept is interesting and I'm sure the abbreviated version of the script was excellent. So Netflix decided to throw some money at it. And it shows, production value is high.
But when it came to writing out the whole script and fleshing out the characters, it all went horribly wrong. The characters are almost comically over the top. The female cop is like a parody of women in their late thirties. Her younger love interest is equally one sided, as the smart and too-decent-to-be-true sidekick. He's smart, and you can tell because he quotes Shakespeare! Cop Bobby is just over the top bad. And rather stupid. And the foreign nationals that are being portrayed. The Germans are all too quirky. The Americans are either embarrassingly drunks or greedy capitalist baddies. It is all very one- sided and over the top. Finally, some concepts that are used: a pharmaceutical company that has a Jesus statue made of pills in the main hall..... Really?
I started watching, hoping for a solid Brit murder mystery. I finished watching because I was curious how this car crash would end. And yes, it was very predictable.
