Not sure what the definition of budget is , but we have just had 4 nights in gran canaria in a 4* hotel for just over £300 each b&b , superb place as well in las palmas , the Reina Isabel hotel , well worth a look !!!

Not winter anymore but we are just back from a c. £1300 self catering holiday for six in a private villa with a pool, flights, two hire cars near Faro on the south coast of Portugal.Easyjet flights and homeandaway sourced villa.

We used Holiday Autos (a broker) - got a Polo for under £25 for the week.Be sure to use the filters for things like:

Full to Full fuel rather than having to buy a tank
Where are they: on the airport, via a shuttle bus, via a walk?etc
The insurance level you want
etc

Yep - actually it was nearer £20.We spent over half as much again to get a toll tag thing.

Looks like the same car is now £40 - maybe as it's a few weeks later in the year?

Thanks mate, just booked flights and accom went for a chalet campsite yelloh village in the end just,oustside lagos so defo need a hire car now.
