in my experience - try the algarve - but the west of Faro as it's lest touristy (but depends on what you want) - places like tavira are lovely...
we've just came back from Madeira and stayed here - Residencial Mariazinha by Petit Hotels, Funchal, Portugal
and for me was the best location in funchal...

the algarve was completely blue skies all the time and we've been there a few times...
Madeira - that was dry - tho, I got a few drops of rain on my one afternoon (literally about 10!) and it there was a heavy shower on our last night which lasted around 1/2 hour... and (like malta) - the temp stays very mild of a night time too data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
This was probably not my best idea.
Not sure when you are going but I recently seen flights to Phuket via Abu Dhabi for £800 for 2 from Manchester. Obviously wouldn't be suitable for 1 week but if you are considering longer maybe worth looking at.
If I had the time off available at work I'd be highly tempted just to book this for a week in the sun AI.

Don't get me wrong it wouldn't be my first choice of places to go but for that money its very tempting if you just want a week in the sun lazing around the pool. Lets face it in the current climate where is a safe place to go in the World?

If not just go on Winter Sun Holidays 2016 / 2017 | Thomson and then select All inclusive under the board option, unless you want self catering of course! If you just want a cheap week away in the sun then theres some bloody good deals to be had!
