Auto type functions rarely work well. I only use it for cycling and walking so no big deal to start and stop.

KyleS1 Publish time 2-12-2019 06:34:15

Walking IMHO should be a standard feature that just works. I'll start/stop cycling manually, but even this one won't track walking pushing a buggy which is really annoying considering how much walking a do pushing a buggy!

The only thing with manual start is how do you add an Elliptical Trainer in there as it isn't on the list and it doesn't recognise it either?

Big mistake this with Garmin.... I have told them this. But I use cardio setting.

I am sure I told you that and that's why I sent my one back, anyway strap it round your ankle that will then track your steps whilst pushing the buggy, my wee yin is out of his buggy now though never mind, it was just enough of an excuse to get the fenix which fails to track if pushing anything as well ha ha ha, as said already though just set it to walk or strap it to yer leg lol.

KyleS1 Publish time 2-12-2019 06:34:18

You might have but I had already ordered it by then.
Anyway, Garmin to get back to me on the issue to see if it is a problem with the unit or their software just not tracking this kind of movement.
I couldn't strap is to my ankle in Greece, would've looked a right numpty with that round my ankle while wearing swimming shorts. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Also manually triggering walk tracks the distance but still doesnt work out the steps which is stupid. It knows the average steps I take over a given distance, so it should just apply that.

Tell you what min, I also have a Fitbit One (constantly on my person btw) and I can stick it in my pocket and it will track my steps, so what I want to know is why a £200device fails to track every step (even more £'s with the Fenix) when a £70 one will and even worse a Fitbit Zip (£40 or less) will as well, it's so damn infuriating, afaik the lot of them have a tri axis sensor's, so what's going on data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7.

Yeah I know. I moved up from a Fitbit Flex (£50ish) to this £210 and it tracks less than the fitbit. Admittedly the fitbit probably tracked stuff I wasn't actually doing, but on average was probably more accurate.

After having mine for nearly two weeks, I can honestly say that I cant fault it. Its probably my best purchase for a while!
I'm running 2.65 Beta firmware (Which is rock solid) and Gearmin watchface, which is perfect for my needs.
Cant comment on the buggy scenario but I've come from a fitbit charge HR and find the step count is absolutely fine. As documented elsewhere, its not flawless and every device has its flaws but I use my tracker to compare my activity to other days. So for day to day stuff I find it pretty good and if I'm doing an activity then obviously I'll start one from the corresponding app.
If you use the buggy for the same time every day eg. to and from school, then you can still see trends and peaks/lows throughout the day.
I walked to the shop earlier and on I thought I'd test the step count by holding my heavy bag of shopping in the hand where I have my watch (so my arm is pretty much static with limited movement) and again, my step count seemed to accumulate quite nicely.

Unfortunately I don't use the buggy at the same times. It's totally random.
