Could you try downloading a running app like runkeeper or something and see if they all work without phone then.
I have made my mother sit in my house today so i dont miss delivery again. should be able to play with mine after work.
Ive downloaded all different things still ask to to turn location on unless it needs unlocking through update

It must be a setting or something. Maybe if your phone is in range it trys to use that to save battery? Try turning bluetooth of on your phone so its forced to use its own.
Samsung have sold this as a standalone device thats better when connected to a phone. i find it hard to believe even the gps wont function stand alone. its plastered over all the tech sites first impressions.

Well on the uk website says
"With a gps on the gear s3, your phone can stay at home or tucked away in your backpack. you still get optomised hiking routes, still see the distance to the next hole on the green and find the best places to eat in the area after the game."
No * after the sentence like on battery life statement saying lte version only or wifi required.
Also they dont sell lte version. like i say going back anyway if it doesnt work stand alone. the apple watch can do it so i dont see why samsung wouldnt be able to achieve it.
