That completely defeats the object of it replacing my iPad though, I should be able to pick it up and wake it and get to what I want to get too quick.

I'm also thinking of sticking with the air I have but replace my MacBook with perhaps a dell xps 13.

I'm gutted because I really like the pro 4 and love the form factor but battery life is a big factor and the fact it also doesn't feel like it's gonna replace my iPad the way I want it to.

The trouble is, and what I am trying to realise myself, is that it is essentially a PC and as such being in sleep mode will not retain the battery at near full levels for a whole day.

Waking from hibernate takes a long time from the perspective of picking up an iPad but is pretty quick from the perspective of a PC.

It's a PC as well mate. Starts up same speed as a macbook pro.

An iPad is not a fully fledged PC/laptop/MacBook and the Surface Pro 4 is.

Yup exactly. For me there are many benefits over a full glorified tablet. Be it a android or apple one.

I'm not claiming that the iPad is a fully fledged laptop.

For me as explained I wanted the pro 4 to replace my tablet first then my PC.

It's not living up to that for me.

I've decided that the iPad will stay but the Mac will go, the question is should I keep the pro 4 as a Mac replacement or should I order the dell XPS 13

id go with the sp4 as it has a better build quality

mudshark Publish time 2-12-2019 06:00:21

I'm gonna pic up a SP4 after Xmas. Asking Santa for cash this year.

As a programmer, the only issue I've with the SP4 is the screen size. If I'm writing code, I prefer to see enough code displayed on a page as much as I can before paging down.

For a smaller screen size, I'll have to scroll down all the time as the screen will fit less lines of code than a bigger screen.

If that'll not be an issue for you, keep your SP4. Otherwise, get a 14" or 15" laptop
