The Rift List: All the demos, games and apps for the Oculus Rift

I'm amazed this thread didn't get more interest. As a long-time gamer (and of course AV enthusiast), it's the single most exciting thing to happen to gaming in ... well, since I began gaming I'd say.

So much so that I jumped straight in with a pledge for the Kickstarter and am anxiously awaiting my Dev Headset in December!

In the mean time, as an outlet for my new obsession, I created my first ever website: RiftVR - Oculus Rift VR Gaming - Virtually a reality   .. any of you with even just a passing interest in the Rift I think might find something to have a look at.

Hopefully that's not against the rules, it's not as if I'm a AVF noob or anything. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I really don't get it personally, it just seems like the headphones to the speakers of eyefinity/surround 3d. More useful for some people and a slightly different experience but fundamentally just another rehashing of stereoscopic pictures and peripheral vision.

Full 3d rather than stereoscopic I could get excited about but I haven't even heard that promised. Personally I'd have said that if anything is likely to bring a major change to gaming it'll be 3d controllers and/or force simulation - look how many units the wavey about variety sold in their console versions.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean EndlessWaves. And I'm certainly not sure what you mean by 'real 3D'.

The Rift is a revelation mainly due to it's incredible FOV (110 Deg. Diagonal) and low latency head tracking. The FOV essentially surrounds your entire field of view, all you see if the game world in full stereoscopic 3D with NO ghosting. This is absolutely nothing like staring at an unconvincing, flat screen at a distance - which in my experience always offered a pretty poor experience.

Companies like Valve (Half-Life / Counterstrike / Portal), Epic (Gears of War / Unreal) abd iD (Doom, Quake, Rage) and Unity engines have all pledged support and by all accounts using this thing really does deliver on the promise of the 90s vision of VR (without the silliness).

Check out the site: RiftVR - Oculus Rift VR Gaming - Virtually a reality ..for a load of hands-on impressions (including those who were so immersed it made them ill data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 - you may change your mind.

Games look pretty naff so far ... Doom 3 and Hawken. Wow.

Might be interesting once some of those involved come out with some new games.

lol..give it a chance data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 dev kits aren't even out yet data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Retail is probably a year away

That's what I am saying... it's pretty useless until there's wide game support.

Might be worth a look in a year or two.

It's early days yet (the Kickstarter only began 1st August) - but already we Doom 3 BFG, Hawken (which looks awesome), Miner Wars 2081 plus promise of Minecraft integration, all sorts of mods including Skyrim and Mirror's Edge. Plus, Steam Greenlight is full of games promising Oculus Rift integration.

Bear in mind that devs don't even have headsets yet and in 5 weeks the above has already happened (don't forget the engine support I already mentioned).

Mark my words, this is gonna be huge!

I'm definitely interested but it's too far away from a consumer release to get overly excited just yet.

Except for those of us getting on in December! \o/
