Well I`m going to sticking with my CV1 for the time being. I have a quest but I don't think I will be able to use it for extended periods as it just isn't that comfortable beyond 20 minute sessions.

I can't wait for the Half Dome 5 or 6 (probably by that time!) to release as the CV2 in around 2022. The changes they've made must have made the tech cheaper to manufacture and if they can release it in 2022 for £399 everyone else might as well give up and go home. I originally predicted that the Half Dome would release as the CV2 in 2022 for £599 but with these changes they've made we could be looking at under 400 quid! data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I'm just hoping that they can increase the FOV to 140 degrees and include a couple of 4K displays for £399 by the time it's ready for release.
It's also going to be interesting to see if they can manage to implement eye tracking and foveated rendering at the runtime level so that old games can see the benefit of it without developers needing to change anything.

i have to say, I have A LOT of faith in Oculus's hardware line moving forwards.
The Quest itself is now INSANE value compared to the competition. You get a portable VR headset to travel with and infinite playspace play sessions; and you get a PCVR capable headset? All for £399?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Oculus's software wizardry just ensures they're where the value is at. The progress they'll making in tracking algorithms will be immense and I'm sure next gen Quest and CV2 will have pin point perfect tracking at that point.
They're also the only headset-seller to announce and preview AAA games.
Its just a really exciting time now to be a Quest owner. A BIG plus for me and why I'll probably ditch a PCVR headset is I HATE the thickness of the cable. Having a very thin USB C cable is going to feel amazing and as close to wireless as we get.
Also them OLED blacks are just so hard to beat. I'm actually in the black level >> SDE boat. I don't mind a bit of SDE if my blacks are punchy.
I don't see how anyone in their right mind would give HTC money because software wise, they just won't be able to compete with Oculus for optimisatiosn of non-sensor tracking.
Valve still have the high end to themselves but I think any Index owners have to be secretly peeved at the ridiculous value of the Quest.

The new problem for Oculus is they’re getting a reputation for dumping partnerships as it suits them. We already had Oculus dump the partnership with Microsoft when they dropped the XBox controller as soon as Touch came along. Then they dumped the Samsung partnership when Oculus decided to go with their own GO headset. Then they dumped constellation after owners had spent 3 years defending it on Forums. Then they dump the Xiaomi partnership when they released the Quest which has 6dof over 3dof and better in every way. Now the big one, they’ve dumped the partnership with Lenovo who have just four month ago released the RiftS. Lenovo a company who themselves turned their back on Microsoft thinking they would have all Oculus PCVR sales to themselves. But as it now turns out, have a bigger and more powerful Rival within Oculus and Quest.
How long before we see Quest 2 - 12 to 24 month would be my guess. Gear gone, GO will be gone, Rift will be gone. Everything will solidify into one headset and it will be based on the snapdragon 855 chipset.

Guessing you must have tried it, surprised it's that bad! Even with more onboard cameras than the Quest / ROFL-S data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I suppose someone of not right mind might also want a wireless PCVR headset... Maybe data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

The biggest reason I just couldn’t drop mymoney on the Index HMD and went Vive Pro instead. It’s good to know the Quest is still out there rocking OLED panels as an option, but I’d still want my lighthouse tracking.

Except this is pure guesswork on your part. I mean you may be right... But it is just as likely oculus didn't want to do another production run of CV1 but had to have a pc be device on the market.
For all we know Lenovo knew this was only going to be an interim product and may explain why many of the parts are essentially just taken out of other products.
We have no idea what the contract was with Lenovo, but the current CV1 component shortage does show us they likely needed to do another production run and it was maybe just not worth doing it for CV1. Maybe Lenovo could do it cheaper

Who are they getting the 'dump and run' reputation with? Just you?
So you know what Lenovo were thinking when they apparently exited an apparent agreement with Microsoft? Are you on the board of Lenovo as well as Oculus?
Just more speculation and conjecture coming from that persistent anti-Oculus agenda of yours I'm afraid.

Yes a reputation with just me because I see the big picture and don’t have my head in the sand.
Try reading reddit there are angry people who just bought RiftS and now wish they’d bought Quest. I don’t blame them.
