I don’t see it an issue. They are trying to move forwards and did that involves dropping or correcting mistakes, so be it.
The Xbox controller was a mistake. They changed it. The constellation was a mistake, they changed it. Having the quest without the ability to act as a pcvr headset was a mistake, they fixed it.
Meanwhile we have Vive who have stuck by their crappy wands for an entire generation and valve that still can’t admit their first batch of index controllers are defective?
By dropping products and correcting mistakes, oculus have stayed relevant.

Valve don’t need to admit it, they just change your controllers on request. I have a new set now that work perfect. Valve sent them with no fuss and now I have to send the old ones back. Great service from Valve.
I don’t need to speak for RiftS owners who are pissed. They can speak for themselves. Let’s see how long Lenovo stick with RiftS. No doubt they’ll go a full 12 months. After that depends on sales and how much Oculus squeeze the price on Quest.
No doubt in my mind though Quest2 will be here before CV2. Because CV2 is Halfdome which is the carrot and actually Quest2.
I might actually buy Quest for the kids for Christmas.

They weren’t crappy for first gen VR they were state of the art. For eight months they were the only VR controllers on the market. HTC now have Cosmos controllers so they moved on but they do what Knuckles do.
Index are now the most advanced VR controllers on the market - according to most Youtubers and Media outlets. There maybe some Oculus owners who disagree for sure but after playing Vader Immortal even without finger tracking it’s a better experience than with Touch imo. (Hand scanner and climbing ladders.) Let’s see if using the force with Knuckles is even better in EP2

You just totally moved the goal posts there mate.... If you want to argue for rift s buyers who would have bought a quest had they of known I agree you have a point .... But that is a totally separate subject.
Don't forget tho for most people (I have an ipd of 69 so maybe not me) the rift S is still the better pcvr headset and will continue to be.also that cable ain't cheap

Almost as many hacked RiftS user as Vive users when the Pro was announced. At least the RiftS will continue to sell.

I respect that your opinion on this technology and the associated vendors is different to mine.
But each of us is entitled to an opinion and neither is right or wrong, better or worse.
Just because others have a different opinion to yours it doesn't mean you have the high ground. It doesn't mean you 'see the big picture' and they don't. It doesn't mean they 'have their head in the sand' and you don't.
That, again, is just your opinion.
It just means their opinion differs from yours.
You have no right to any high ground, no more or less than I do.
Your opinion is no better, no worse, no more right, no more wrong, than mine. The picture you see is no bigger, or smaller, or more or less encompassed in sand, than the one I see.

End of the day. Facebook are making the adoption of vr more accessible to more people for cheaper.

Hand tracking 'should' be great if it works as I hope it will.
Imagine being able to play sim racing games and it knowing exactly where your hand is on the steering wheel so you don't have to re-adjust it.
Or being able to hold a gun and it knowing where and what it is just by the shape/position of your hand.
Or a flight sim hotas.
The list is endless.
The Valve Nipples (or what ever they are called) will be obsolete and old tech before they are out of nappies (never mind end of life).

Imagine the calibration needed though, to co-ordinate holding a real world device like wheel or HOTAS with virtual hands holding a similar virtual object.
Although I guess it would be similar to the re-centre we have now - put your hands on your physical device and press a button.
With your nose.
