New Tado starter kit installed and working, no probs apart from the remote dropout a week ago. My app shows three wavy bars, not a flame icon. These seen to light up depending on how near the target temperature is, one, two or all three. They can be lit yet the thermostat is off, and the temperature is not reached. I'm guessing it measures the rate of increase and cuts the boiler in advance knowing that there is still more increase to come from the rads.

Would I be right in saying that TRVs can only be programmed to open and close the valve, but in order to fire the boiler they must be linked to the extension kit or main thermostat. In a non tado system TRVs would only control the flow of hot water to a radiator, they would not be connected to the timer which fired the boiler. Tado TRVs are no different unless it's possible to program the extension kit or the main thermostat to fire the boiler on their behalf.
I can't remember I'm afraid. Heating hasn't been on in ages so I don't even know how / if it all works. Good reminder for me though
As far as I am aware there is always one radiator on the circuit that should not have any kind of TRV for safety reasons. This is usually a bathroom radiator and is usually that last radiator on the circuit to heat up. It will always be on when the heating is on. Therefore if you have smart TRV's on all the other radiators they will call for heat anyway and the radiator will be on regardless. If you dont have smart trv's then you are controlling the entire heating of you're house through the temperature measured in that one bathroom. Either way it seems a waste to have the thermostat in that room.
Yes I believe that is correct. Tado TRV's will trigger the boiler to fire if you have the extension kit. If you are trying to get a Tado TRV to trigger a boiler controlled via another smart thermostat system this would potentially be possible through IFTTT or home automation hub. I don't think it would be possible at all if the boiler is controlled via a standard "dumb" programmer/thermostat

I have the main thermostat in my hallway and TRVs on 7 radiators in separate rooms with 2 towel radiators & a main radiator (in the hall) with no TRVs (whether Tado or normal). When I go to switch the heating on in say the main bedroom, this only switches the TRV on in this room. All other Tado TRVs remain off and so does the main thermostat.
Of course, heating also comes to the 3 non-TRV'd radiators.
I had to ask Tado to enable this for me and it appears to work so far.
So you only have a smart thermostat, not an extension kit, and if so, the TRV when turned up must be relaying to the smart thermostat in order to close the relaý, assuming it is off, ie, it's temperature is set lower that it's location. I'm thinking of adding a few TRVs but don't want to add the extension kit nut do want the TRVs to call for heat independent of the general thermostat temperature.
Something along those lines. I installed Tado in our new home earlier in the year after having it in our last house and the new 3 wavey bar system seems to work well. It has only been kicking the hearing on for the last few days but it appears quite subtle in its approach so I haven’t even noticed the heating coming on, the older setup before was much more obvious.
Sorry just to be clear, I also have the extension kit but only because I wanted to control the hot water. I don't know if this is also used by Tado when they enabled the TRVs to be independent to "call" for heat as well as the main thermostat I have.
I'd try again with another Tado person. I asked the following (this was when I had just one TRV and the main thermostat (plus extension kit)):
"As well as the main smart thermostat, I also have one thermostatic radiator valve. I set this valve to switch the heating on (leaving the main thermostat off), but it didn't seem to switch on? Is this how it's meant to work? If so, can this be changed such that the radiator valve can switch on heating without main thermostat being on - e.g if I just wanted to heat one room."
Their response was:
"Yes, this should be possible and I have now adapter your account so that this should function. Please test and let me know the outcome."
Result: a couple of emails later, the TRV independently switched on the heating.
Have purchased a radiator valve stater kit along with a smart thermostat and extension kit for the boiler. All installed Ok, apart from two radiators in one zone keep dropping out and remote access is lost. The Tech support have tried everything and cannot get to the bottom of it.Firmware is all the same.
The extension kit is by far the furthest device and yet that connects Ok.One radiator valve in Hall connects and stays connected, but two valves, in sight of each other and within 3 metres of valve in hall, continues to loose connection.
has anyone any ideas of what might be going on?
