Welcome to the forumdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I too have upgraded my Yamaha's HD to 750Gb. I was told by Yamaha Tech Support that even though the unit will only display a max of 400Gb capacity, it will allow me to use all 750Gb for storage. I've not used anywhere near half the capacity so can't confirm thisdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7. There was a rumour that there was a firmware update for the HD1500, but that it was never available to the public.
As has been mentioned the HD interface is PATA (IDE) and the max available drive is 750Gb. For larger capacity drives which are now all SATA ,there may be a SATA - IDE adapter available but I'm not sure if it's suitable or if it'll fit in the Yamaha.
Regarding replacing the CDR drive, I'm sure this question has been asked elsewhere on the web; you'll have to google it.
As for importing and exporting, it was discussed on this link http://www.odysseyaudiohk.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1158948856
I've not tried it.
I also remember questions about the Yamaha HD1500 in general being asked on the American equivalent of this forum (AVS Forum) and CDFreaks.
Hope this helpsdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Hi. No, it can either play or record - not both at the same time.

Hi.I've had a CDR-HD1500 for a few years now and it's worked fine.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7Ironically, having not used it for a while (about six months) due to a problem with my Humax PVR (which is the source from which I record using the Yamaha), I recently started to do so again. For a few days it's been fine.... but not now! data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7Let me explain.
The first sign of a problem was when it refused to 'copy' to a CD-R.I had recorded a radio programme on the Humax, transferred it to the Yamaha and edited it, and then wished to write it to the CD as per normal.I inserted the disc, pressed 'copy' twice, then AMQR, and finally 'go', all as normal.Except this time after a few flashes of 'wait' it didn't start recording to dic but just went back to showing a '0', i.e. what it shows when you first insert the blank disc.Nothing will induce it to record to CD - I've tried different discs, different types of discs, with and without AMQR but still nothing.
Giving up on that, I thought that I'd do something useful until I'd figured out that problem so saved to the Yamaha's hard disc another programme I'd recorded on the Humax.I did succeed in doing this, but only after the Yamaha had 'got stuck' for a while at the point I inserted a track break.I had to switch off and back on again to start the transfer from the Humax anew.Anyway, having completed the transfer, I now find I can't edit the 'disc' (radio programme) as when I entered a command the Yamaha went into a cycle of 'wait' responses that went on and on until I turned it off (per the instruction manual). The manual also helpfully data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 suggests that such instances may indicate that 'the microprocessor is frozen'.
Apart from finding my local Yamaha service place, can anyone suggest anything that might shock the Yamaha back to proper behaviour?

An update! I've managed to transfer some other material to CD-R as normal so it would seem to be only the one 'disc' (to use Yamaha parlance = this particular radio programme) that won't transfer. Also, the controls seem to be working as normal now, except, as I say, relative to copying this one 'disc' (bit of the hard disc) to a CD-R.
It's all very odd given that it will play this programme quite happily and hence I can listen to it direct from the hard drive - it just won't allow me to copy it to a CDR.
So, problem not solved but not being quite as much of a nuisance as before.... unless it's a warning of future (hard disc or otherwise) troubles!data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Um.... just refused to allow me to edit another 'disc' and to copy it to CD-R. Looks like the problem isn't going to go away. Bother!
Anyone have any experience of Yamaha's various repair centres?Any recommended (or otherwise)?
Ta.

Just heard back from one Yamaha service place - they think it could be the drive on its way out.Bother!I think I could replace the drive myself (it looks fairly simple) but how do I recover the material on the dodgy drive?

Hi Ears,
If you have a PC, you can try to use the Yamaha Assistant Program and copy all the files from your old HD (as extern HD) to your PC.
Maybe there's a friend who'll help you with this one-time-project.
Succes and let us know the results please.
Kind regards,
RoBoDutch
