They absolutely have the ability to lock the devices out if it comes to that.

I have an Honor 6X. Can I assume that I'm safe from changes? I love this phone. For less than $200 I got 32 gig storage, 3 gig memory, two quad core CPUs, 13 sensors and 1920x1080 IPS monitor (just like my PC monitor).

In other words, it's loaded.

They are not banning Huawei they are just no longer allowing certifying there devices (assuming it doesn't get resolved) I find it highly unlikely Google will block anything, My kids backup tablets are not Google certified, from 2013, and still run gapps without issue. As does literally millions of other devices like this.

Said this a few times, the issue is not gapps but the fact once updated past a Google verified version these phones will no longer pass safetynet

MKBHD has done a good round-up video of the situation:

Google will block it if they have to do it to obey the law.

Hi mate

The Law is to not do business with them, AOSP is open source. The Video @MarkyPancakeposted explains everything pretty well.

cheers

I'm curious about the OS on my Honor, it's not exactly an Android OS but an EMUI OS (5.0.4). It's equivalent to Android 7.0.

Is it affected still?

BigD18t Publish time 27-11-2019 22:44:59

EMUI is Huawei's skin over android, if it's still on 7.0 that's already a few years old, Android is now up to 9.0 but Huawei is not really great at keeping older products up to date, I had the Honor 8 which was a flagship at the time and it only got upgraded from 7.1 to 8.0 and then they stopped, which I why I wont buy another product from them.

You may stop receiving security updates, if you haven't already, but the rest should work fine.
