The coffee fanatics thread...

Thought I would start this as there was various chat in not quite relevant threads about coffee, so we can put all the chat in here instead. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I suggested to my wife* that I could get a Rocket (maybe an APPARTAMENTO | Rocket Espresso ) for my next birthday - I wonder though, would I miss the features of an R58?
Anyone used both of these machines?

*the resulting comment wasn't entirely overwhelming but we'll have to see. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I do like drinking coffee but I'm a heathen and drink it in a mug with about 1qtr milk so it's drinkable almost instantly.

So I generally drink Kenco Smooth instant.

Returning to my tamping question on the other thread, it was just that the coffee tasted a little weak, even when selecting a double shot. I thought it might be me not tamping down firmly enough? But as my machine DeLonghi EC680 has a pressurised portafilter (not sure what this is or does) does this mean the tamping doesn't matter (as much?)?

Or maybe it's just the coffee I'm using?

Yeah, that's what I said when I first saw it. Then I saw it's big brother, the R58 and it's even bigger brother the V60. Not only do they look the business but they really are the business too with proper boilers, E61 heated group heads and the like. The V60 has pressure profiling functionality too so you can dictate how much pressure you apply to the extraction and when.

Sounds like you need to open the AVF coffee shop! data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Maybe you aren't putting enough coffee in?
You can set your machine to dispense as much water as you want for the single and double espresso options. I think you press and hold the button while dispensing water, and when you let go, it remembers that setting and always dispenses that much water. Just don't turn it off at the plug as it forgets your settings.

Always like nice coffee and recently completed a kitchen renovation so I treated myself to a proper decent machine.

Fantastic coffee produced from it. Love it. Worth ever penny
