One thing to think about is 240V vs Battery. The 240V will talk to the Nest Thermostat all the time and use it's proximity sensor to tell the Nest if you home. The battery one will just log the info and send that data once a day, so it can only use it to improve the auto scheduling of when your at home or out.
The 240V one is defiantly much more useful with your thermostat, but obviously not as easy to install (especially if you don't currently have wired ones now).
Thankfully as my house is only 5 years old, all smoke detectors are hard wired with battery backup sonos get full use.To be honest I think with battery version there is loss cross over and cost becomes more of a factor
Well I know you have to give it 7 days but the Nest is already working out our routine and programming itself. Last night noticed that the upstairs zone said night setting without me changing anything.
Got more time to play with the settings later today. I want to see if you can change the default display from "Heat set to" to "current room temp" (which is already displayed but small print, I would like to swap them round)
The user interface and general design is overall a very good experience and although there is a lot in there, it is very well laid out and easy to operate.
Received mine last week, and then a little while later, an email came through stating that due to unprecedented demand, the installation may be a little longer than expected. A phone call from the installer then confirmed this - the earliest spot he had was the 22nd May!!!!
With that in mind, a quick phone call to the chap thatinstalled my new boiler and £20 later - it's up and running.
It's hard to see what all the excitement is about to be honest. It's so well designed and it just sits there and does it's thing. Having researched to death the comparisons between "Hive" and Tado" - Nest and the others, I am more than convinced that I have made the right choice. What's hard to believe is that we have all got ourselves excited and frothing at the bit (me included!), in what is essentially a very elaborate temp controller.
My missus summed it up - "Boyz and their toyz!"
can i ask if the the nest was installed where your old thermostat was?
i would like to have one where mu current drayton basic thermostat is. wandering for installation if there will be a power supply behind my drayton?

Yep, I already had two zones with a couple of basic Honeywell thermostats.Very happy with the existinglocation and ideal for activity sensor purposes of the Nest.I also didnt need the portabilty of Nest but it's a nice option to use the supplied plug and USB (with optional stand) and place it any room you need.
In short if you have an existing wired Thermostat and are happy with it's location, you can just swap it out for the Nest.

I checked the energy settings and it's been on twice briefly since install on Monday. Temp is generally set to 21 in the house so it's just maintaining that.
Some pics of both zones as requested but as I've said, really not much to see. Although a few guests last night did the "ooooohh, ahhhh" thing when they walked past and it lit up.
21.Wow.You keep your house nice and toasty.We have ours set to 18 or 19 max.House never seems to get much colder than that anyway....guess that's having a relatively new house for you.
