So if Corbyn rallied his rabble and unions, shut down the country for the day and occupied state / government buildings to hold an illegal rerun of the Brexit referendum, you'd support him? Would. You. fudge.

No I wouldn't support him, but I also wouldn't use force to thwart him...good excuse to finally get rid of him though data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Well I'd have him executed.

First up what unions? This isn't the 70s. Barely anyone is in one.

Second, any strike action requires a ballot. Oh dear, democracy again. The. Thing. You. Don't. Like.

Him yes data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 But I wouldn't send in the police with approval to use force at those wanting to vote. I'd just have him quietly lifted and send to the tower through traitors gates. Then have him quartered inside the walls of the Tower of London. Probably also declare a public holiday to celebrate data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I support democracy and the law. You're the one sanctioning illegal behavior because it suits your viewpoint.

Sonic67 Publish time 26-11-2019 02:14:56

I support the right of people to hold a referendum on their future.

You don't.

Please explain how holding a non-binding referendum is illegal.

rustybin Publish time 26-11-2019 02:14:56

Oh dear. Yes, yes I do.

I wasn't happy about the UK Brexit referendum because I'm not a fan of referenda full-stop and I p as I'm an advocate of Parliamentary Democracy, but I supported the right to hold it given that the Conservative Party promised to have one and they were elected.

I wasn't happy about the Scottish having one for Independence as I support the Union, but they had one I would have supported the outcome had they voted to leave the Union.

What you're supporting is illegal action by separatists who almost certainly knew they wouldn't get their way via the ballot box and so attempted a coup.

I'm not a lawyer. The Spanish Government say it's illegal, the EU say it's illegal, the UK have supported the Spanish Government (not sure if they've declared it illegal). Therefore, I'd say it's probably illegal until confirmed otherwise.

Sonic67 Publish time 26-11-2019 02:14:57

It's democracy. More democratic than our electoral system. In a referendum every single vote counts. In first past the post it doesn't. At least you admit there's aspects of democracy you are against.
What you personally want should be irrelevant.
No I am supporting democracy. Let the Catalans have a referendum on independence just like Scotland did and the UK did. Have Spain hold it and put the matter to bed. What are they afraid of? That the people might vote the wrong way?

I am well aware the EU is against people voting. Ireland had to have another go.

Brexit: Governments have ignored referendums for the greater good before

From Ireland to Greece, countries have decided to completely ignore the ‘will of the people’, asked them to think again or think about something only slightly different.

You're misunderstanding democracy. Easily done as it's a broad term. The Spanish 'democracy' deems the Catalan 'leaders'' actions as illegal. You might believe they were democratic, and in some places on Earth they might have been, but in Spain, according to their Constitution, it was illegal.

That's the end of the story. We can argue about the Spanish Govt overreaction all we want, but the bottom line is, it was illegal.
