Am I being over anxious by thinking this might trigger a world war? Will China stay out of a war between the US and NK? I'm suddenly not making nay plans for next month and wondering if I'll ever see my unborn child!

As long as China add North Korea to it's empire there won't be a war.
They have already invaded the South China including other countries fishing grounds.

Hi,

Not really imho - NK has to engage in it's bellicose nonsense mainly to show a strong propaganda image internally that it is "standing up to the USA" to maintain the illusion that it is invincible. All that this has been happening under the direction of China anyway & there is no way China will allow them to attack unless it wants to tank it's own economy in the process.

The NK's fully know that any attack will lead to their demise & as an isolationist dictatorship, their sole aim is to stay in power for as long as possible so it is in their own interests of survival not to start a war as this will only remove them from power.

No way China will ever not support NK as it way too important for China's own needs & agenda - remember China directly fought in battle with the US to get control of the entire Peninsula & ended up losing half of what they controlled for over a thousand years & there is no way they will ever give up control of North now - it is way too strategically important for them & they need NK as a buffer state amongst many other things.

Weekends here, if there is going to be a war I have a free weekend, there's pizza and beers in the fridge and there's rolling news channels. Bring it on.

Fortunately, I've already built my nuclear bunker, after all the WW3 Brexit warnings, was starting to think it would go to waste data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Unless your plans included a holiday in NK, I don't see any reason for changing anything. You can't make your life any safer can you?
We just have to see what happens...

It will blow over its just the season, with Grouse shooting comes North Korea, as they are let out to play. 5-10 years’ time full state visit here, probably most likely get to build important infrastructure projects,no doubt get to chairUN Human Rights Council. Full membership to just about everything in the international community, they will be everyone’s new second best friend, best friend status will be reserved for China.

I see that Comrade Jeremy is using his usual weasel wording about "both sides". Haven't heard him comment though on his chief puppet master Seamus Milne's previous call to show solidarity with North Korea?

Hi All,

Well, further to what I alluded to earlier regarding China's stance on a conflict with NK, a major leading Chinese Publication called the "The Global Times" (not an official platform for the Communist Party but a State Run Publication) stated the following (which Western experts apparently feel is a true reflection of Beijing's stance) that:

"China should make it clear to both sides: “when their actions jeopardize China's interests, China will respond with a firm hand.”

“China should also make clear that if North Korea launches missiles that threaten U.S. soil first and the U.S. retaliates, China will stay neutral,”

it added.

“If the U.S. and South Korea carry out strikes and try to overthrow the North Korean regime and change the political pattern of the Korean Peninsula, China will prevent them from doing so.”

"China will firmly resist any side which wants to change the status quo of the areas where China's interests are concerned".

Chinese paper says China should stay neutral if North Korea attacks first
