But should history of a population, religion or region have an overriding effect of that countries humanitarian needs in the present ? The countries population at the very least should get the basic freedom of choice .
Agreed - that is what I'm saying.If it weren't for the innocents caught in the middle then I believe we should just keep out and leave them to it.
But if this ends with Assad being kicked out and we have some dubious election which puts a rebel supporter in power, then for a short while we will be applauding that democracy has been restored but after a while we will see that oppression is still alive and well it is just be applied to a different group of people.
And then Assad's ex-supporters will become rebels, they will be seen as the good guys and as always it will be the innocents caught in the middle who suffer.
