A quick point.

There are 650 seats, so nominally a majority is 650/2   1 = 326.

However, the speaker and his 2 deputies usually don't vote, and Sinn Féin (who don't take their seats) currently have 5 seats, so there are really only 650 - 8 = 642, so a majority = 642/2   1 = 322.Give or take a seat or two if Sinn Féin gain or lose seats.

I don't usually agree with Mandleson, but he's just said something spot on.

First Past the Post is now thoroughly discredited.

Looking at all the possible results (CON in power, LAB LD in power, hung parliament close to both of these results) there's no way that any oneparty, or LAB   LD, should bring about a situation where one party or grouping should be ruling.

BTW, my local polling station told me turnout was massively up.

There are reports that polling stations in Sheffield and Manchester closed before everyone had voted, with queues still outside.

Who'd ever have guessed that!

I'd say a lot of that is due to the TV debates plus the closeness of the election. It's great news that a lot of people have bothered to vote, the smell of apathy in this country was starting to become pungent.

That is a good point, however here is another one - so did the majority of the western world - can B&B take credit for all of those countries too?

Not a conspiracy, but there are reports of this coming from several areas.

So there may be legal challenges, especially if the result is close, as it appears it will be.
