So, on paper, we send £350m and receive a rebate of £100m. So I guess that figure on the bus is correct then.

So the EU are falsifying their figures in cahoots with the UK. They cannot rebate on something they do not receive can they?
I’m sorry for funnying your post but the Fullfact article I linked to explains how the ‘rebate’ is calculated based on the previous years’ membership, so we never send the higher amount anywhere yet the gymnastics being performed to defend the bus (which nobody believed) is impressive.
When I get paid, I don’t get the full gross pre-tax amount in my bank then transfer back the tax I need to pay. My Net salary is calculated according to my pre-existing tax code and I’m paid the final amount.
So it looks like the £350m is correct- that is what the EU demand but it is offset against a rebate which they calculate. The rebate (variable, each year) is deducted before payment.
