It also depends on how you buy your car so if you buy the car on a PCP deal then at the moment a Diesel potentially makes more sense when you give it back after the period.I have never had much equity (if any) in cars at the end of a PCP

BMW on new 320s are giving 3k on new petrols (£31,250 M Sport Saloon, 10k residual on 10k miles), Monthly price no deposit £416 for 4 years

Diesel (£33,920 £10.6k residual on 10k miles) works at £406.

So £480 of the period cheaper, plus the fuel economy will save you money

I had looked at this first when BMW were only giving 1k on petrol so it was working out at more like £60 a month or nearly a 3k saving which was a lot more significant.

I take it you read the report I just posted? It actually mentions PCPs in that report as being a 'problem' area.

Only if people are wanting to hand their car back early for some reason.

If I hand my car back at the END of my PCP deal it doesn’t matter if the car is worth £1, it won’t be my problem, it will be Audi’s

In the Telegraph, no I hadn't read that particular one.

ChuckMountain Publish time 24-11-2019 23:32:29

Yes exactly, you can only give it back under certain circumstances part way through anyway.

These day some people are wanting to swap earlier so dealers are advising to Voluntary Terminate the contract as they are usually in negative equity. So long as 50% of the payments on the agreement have made (which includes the finance contribution) then this goes through a similar process to the end of term.So long as the car has only suffered fair wear and tear for the age (and under mileage limit, though that could be argued under a VT) then there should be nothing to pay.

This one?   Used diesel cars have lost up to a quarter of their value since the start of 2017

I’d quite like another big petrol v8. Not good on fuel but nice to drive.

ChuckMountain Publish time 24-11-2019 23:32:30

It doesn't seem to mention PCP though ?

IronGiant Publish time 24-11-2019 23:32:30

It doesn't specify PCP, but says:
