M1 and M25 cameras

I have had a few people tell me this now, apparently from midnight tonight all cameras on the M1 and M25 will be going live and set to 72mph. Auto ticket generation and a possible ban for over 90mph.

Anyone else heard similar?

I know for a fact they work as mums partner got done 61 on a gantry camera set to 50.

Not sure about when the signs are off. Don’t think they routinely work

Rumours... Been doing the rounds for ages.

The truth is that they are set to the usual speed limit   10%2MPH, so 80MPHwhen they are switched off might well give you a ticket. I see them flashing away quite often.

I travel that way at least twice a week and so long as you stay within an indicated 10MPH (Speedos always read high) of the speed posted, you shouldn't have a problem.

I thought it was just the new ones that are mounted to the side that are always active now. The ones above are only active when a speed is being shown.

I've seen both flash with the signs switched off, so I wouldn't rely on that.

I wouldn’t trust any camera on the M25.

Cruise set to 73mph for me.

Same cameras all over the M62 "smart motorway".When they're unlit then I set the cruise 70-72mph as indicated by the GPS (the speedo is showing nearly 80mph).
When they're lit with a lower speed I use the speedo to set the cruise at the limit as other drivers will be using their overestimate on speedo not the real speed.
You need to be going quite a lot faster than the limit to have any real impact on your overall journey time so it's hardly worth the risk of points and fines etc. YMMV data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

think it varies on the M1.... ive seen the ones just north of Sheffield flash (northbound) but ive never seen the one at Junction 29 southbound flash despite some serious speeders fly through

There are rumours of a rolling speed camera working the 4 lane section M1 north of Notts for the next few days.

The ones on the M5 have been working (at least flashing on occasion) since the 4 lane section post M42 opened a while back even when the variable speed control isn't active, i've seen them flash several times on my travels up and down there, although i don't know of anyone getting fined??

A colleague suggested they may be just on a timer to flash every so often (maybe wishful thinking)?

Again i heard back in November from a police officer that the ones on the M25, M1, M5, M6 and maybe M4 were going to be active all the time? but as said above thats not the first time i've heard it said.

Aren't these cameras (circled) for safety monitoring (traffic flow, accidents etc. as a result of the emergency lane being replaced by a running lane) rather than speed?
