No, they monitor all traffic lanes. The safety cameras are mounted on poles all along the motorway.
These speed cameras always have a pole about 100 yards beforehand with 3 video cameras that take a longer shot of the gantry with the speed limit signs, so they are quite easy to spot.
These are the new speed cameras replacing the ones above the gantry afaik. Have seen them flash.
This country is beginning to be really depressing. This is just the start of all roads having cameras so they can tax us per mile driven instead if the standard yearly fee. AI & facial recognition are already in the CCTV cameras. Orwell's 1984 is here.

Remember the fuel protests back when Blair was PM ? Motorways are also the safest roads we have. Theres a lot to be done elsewhere if it's about safety.
Also, they might be looking over the channel to see what can happen when people get fed up.....

No they're called hadecs. They are operational at all times, scan all lanes and DON'T need to flash to snap you. Often they don't flash.
Gantry signs are for managed speeds. They get you if you go over the advertised speeds.10% allowance is bull crap, trust me on that.
So the police officer at my speed awareness course 8 weeks ago who told me that the allowance was 10% 2MPH was lying then ?
