Had car accident need some advice please

Hello all,

So today I hit another car in the rear end with my ford focus.
It wasn't at high speed and I wont go in to much detail about how it happened but i would like to know what is likely to happen to my car now.

The car is old but has sustained damage to thepassenger head light , bumper , fog light and the air conditioning condensor causing the air con not to work. The bonet is also slightly bent on the corner

I am fully comp but my excess is £250

I have protected no claims of 14 years.

So my questions are:

Is the car likely to be written off?

How long do theses thing usually take?

If the car is written off, what actually happens? do i get any money ? do i still pay the excess?

How much money is my insurance likely to go up when i renew it in November ?

Any help would really be appreciated.

While its a 17 year old car and commercially not worth much , its almost irreplaceable to me me as i wouldn't be able to buy a car the same spec for the price it is now worth , if that makes sense.

I am panicking a bit about this so like i said any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks all.

D.

I'm sure they will let you keep the car and get it fixed yourself rather than paying out.

So will I still pay an excess? Ect?

Really don't know what to do. Car probably only worth 400, but like I saidit's worth a fortune to me ..

You pay excess to get the persons car you hit sorted if you want to sort yours yourself then you can?

You will lose your excess - as this will help to pay for the damage to the car you hit. They will probably claim for whiplash as well...

If you are happy to repair at your own expense, they will probably accept this. A visit to the scrap yard will probably find you the parts and you might even be able to fix it yourself.

I think you only pay the excess for repair to your car, it doesn't matter if the other party is claiming against you.I would ring them and ask

Nah have to pay excess if it is your fault to get the other persons car fixed I rolled into the back of a Audi A8 a few years ago and cracked the bumper was cheaper for me to pay my excess than pay to get it fixed myself - no damage to my car

A new condenser on a focus fitted will be about £370 all in (I just had one done), so if the car is worth £400 and you have a load of bodywork needs doing as well the insurer will likely write it off.

You could have the car back and repair it yourself but if it is not worth much without the damage, getting ot repaired is probably an expensive option.

You will be offered the value of the car minus your excess. The insurer will make you an offer and you will likely reject it. You will need to prove the value of your car by providing evidence that it is worth more than their offer, you can do this will adverts from car dealerships, Parkers, ebay etc.
