If it comes off a roll then I should only be charged for what is used. Charge me for 40 feet, then knocking some of for waste there should be around 36 feet of pipe on the van.

...anything.You are a layman completely out of your depth. When cutting pipe off a reel like that there will be wastage, they will probably cut a pipe 50% over length and trim to fit once in place. You have no idea how they price it, but Cocksure as ever off you go...   Good luck, I won't advise you any more, and I suggest wezzy shouldn't either as you have repeatedly ignored his input.

Realised I was being cocksure as you say so took a step back

I know a lot more than you about car maintenance as I mainly DIY ours, and I know the perils of handing over your car to a main stealer. But your reasons for going legal are so tenuous that I worry you will get kicked out of court and end up paying out even more on your end of life van.So I leave you here...

@wezzywebb @IronGiant apologies about yesterday, I don't know if it was because I was working or some other reason, but regardless my attitude wasn't the best.

I keep on pushing in regards the brake pipes for 2 reasons, 1st because they have publicly claimed that they only used genuine parts, so if ford did sell them it would be case over at that stage, the 2nd is because whether all the brake pipes have been done or not is the difference between fraud and bad workmanship

I fully agree that you only replace brake pipes with copper pipes that you make up (it has been that way for as long as I remember, I've been a mechanic for 48 years.)
I also agree that you usually join a pipe where it is impossible or very difficult to get at the old piping to replace it...sometimes it's as severe as removing an engine to replace the brake pipes (some Mercedes cars) or removing the whole front or rear axle.
Much of the time there is only a small section that is actually corroded so common sense dictates that you join the pipes to save time and money....this is fine as long as you inform your customer what you did, in my opinion.
As far as buying a set of genuine Ford brake pipes, yes, it might be possible (I have never tried) but again, removing the front axle, rear axle, engine etc to replace them would cost more than the vehicle is worth, just not practical!
Go to a dealer and ask if they can supply a set is the easiest thing to do.

This whole thing about "genuine parts" is a bit of a red herring as quite often a lot of the parts aren't made by the vehicle manufacturer but are actually bought in. I recently bought a " genuine" BMW oil filter that was made by Mahle...I can buy Mahle filters at half the price of the "genuine" BMW filter.

Well said mate ,and 48 years in the game ,I thought my 30 years was long enough data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Ok, so it's very unlikely that there are direct ford replacement pipes and that using copper pipes instead is the industrial standard as is joining to old in place

Surely though when you are priced and told that both the front and rear pipes have been changed that it should mean 70% plus has been replaced or I'm I missing something here to?

wezzywebb Publish time 24-11-2019 22:48:08

No ,the main section of pipe is front to rear of vehicle ,so it would be less than 70% if these weren't changed .
To be honest here ,you are out of your depth when it comes to vehicle repair knowledge ,and this will be your downfall if you take matters further, no offence intended ,but you have now had advice from people with nearly 80 years combined pro experience and you still question it!!
Good luck ,i,m out of here
