I REALLY wish I'd had a cam on my bike today.
A friend and I rode out to the Peak District and back. We were passed by cars going right over (not touching, miles over) double white solid lines more than 30 times. Twice cars had to brake and swerve in between us as a car came the other way around a bend (hence the solid lines).
Not one of the above cars waited so much as one second behind us - I heard them approaching and they drove straight past over the lines.
Down a hill under a bridge the road narrowed, and is signed 'oncoming cars in the middle of the road'. A 4x4 overtook us as a car was coming up the hill, he only just avoided a head on collision by again swerving back in at the last moment.
On the way home a car passed us just before a bend completely on the wrong side of the road, another cyclists came around the bend, had to swerve heavily and nearly ended up in the ditch. His language showed how close he came to being hurt.
That's just one ride on one day, and I haven't even mentioned other minor incidents such as close passes.
Not ONE of the above drivers was being 'held up' by us in any way, they simply drove straight past us illegally, ignoring the obvious danger. All they had to do was wait a few seconds while we'd rounded a bend or crested a hill and passing would have been completely safe. (As plenty of other cars did).
It was unbelievable how people put themselves and others in danger for absolutely no reason.

Are you talking about push bikes or motor bikes?

We were on push bikes, not that it makes any difference to the stupidity or legality of what drivers were doing!

Not defending the car drivers but I'm sure the highway code says you can over take slow moving traffic and cross the solid white lines?

It does, but i bet the riders were travelling faster than 10mph.

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.

Yep, we were doing way above 10mph on the flat and around that on hills - but even if we were just below 10mph on a hill, the rule says 'unless it is safe'.
Doing it just before a blind bend or crest of a hill and nearly crashing into oncoming traffic doesn't really qualify as safe, nor does swerving back over in between two cyclists. It's sheer stupidity and no drivers should need to read any rules to know that.
We were doing over 30mph when overtaken several times. 40downhill isn't at all unusual, my max speed is over that nearly every time I go out. 50is also easy on a long descent, though unless the road was dead straight and smooth I wouldn't risk it.
