It wasn't the right wing of the Tory party that voted leave though was it. The seeds of dissension amongst certain parts of the voters was sown along time before Cameron was a twinkle in the eye of the Conservative leadership. The issue of leave or remain in the Eu always has divided party politics.
That really is the issue, on the one hand surrender power to the EU or render the democratic process of this sovereign country null and void by ignoring and then manipulating the will of the people. Its a perfect example of Condorcet’s paradox, the theory of democracy and how the collective decision making process in this instance has lead to a democratic trilemma. |
