We have had over 15 years now of Henman and then Murray being asked 4 times every year "can you win a grand slam" and reminded of Fred Perry. The publics visibility of that is huge, especially with Wimbledon being one of the UK's biggest sporting events.
With so many athletics gold medal winners over that corresponding period, I just don't think an athlete is going to figure so highly in the public's mind. But it will be close, but even then Farah is hedging it with the Bookies compared to Ennis.
A large part of it will actually be down to the BBC and how much the big up (or down in comparison) each of the contenders in their warm up programmes. Wrongly or rightly, they could easily make one athletes achievements sound grander and more deserving than anothers. |
