horizons is a complete killer on performance. even the vanilla game on my DK2 i felt my gtx 980 was getting a good work out.
add in the detailed planet surfaces
20% increase in resolution
20% increase in frame rate.
it does not surprise me to be honest.
gaming on a monitor if you get a few drops in frames it really does not matter, lose framerate in VR however and it can put you off the entire experience full stop, with nausea which can last hrs. That being said i am still hoping frontier can support decoupled headlook.
i play FSX in VR with decoupled headlook and using my old i5, even when the framerate tanked to 45fps, it was still a comfortable experience as the headtracking was still a full 75fps.
VR for the next few years is only going to be for those with high end gear imo... it is a short term problem, 2 years from now it will be fine. |
