As a user of HTC hardware for quite a few years and a Steam gamer, I'm delighted to see HTC releasing this news today.

Can't wait to see it develop.

Has anyone tried any of the VR headsets yet?

I really hope it lives upto the hype ! I used to own the Oculus DK2 and it let me down with the narrow field of vision, although it was a development kit and for that reason I shouldn't have had the expectations that these companies are aiming for. If they can get the full immersive field of vision perfected, the Vive should be big !

A 1,200 by 1,080 pixel screen in front of each eye, with refresh rates of a blistering 90 frames per second, displays photorealistic imagery that fills your field of vision in all directions, eliminating the jitter common to previous VR technologies and transporting you to another world.

IF it is (big IF) and if the 360 degrees tracking works as well and as judder free as they promise, and it works on "just" a highish end pc (ie not some sort of tri SLI super computer) and IF they can keep it functional with all the rift VR software, then this could be pretty exciting.

I am more than happy with my DK2 for now, so am prepared to wait and see what both HMDs offer now.

I am still really worried about fragmented support... that is the only worry I have at this point to be honest.

There appears to be a partial press embargo until Wednesday, so I reckon expect big noise from valve on Wednesday. I'm supposed to be relaxing on holiday and all I'm doing is trawling for VR news from the hotel's WiFi.
