Can VivePort be used for the upcoming Focus Plus with games available like SuperHot and Beat Saber?

Got to admit that last week I was in a place where whatever the price and whatever the spec I was pre-ordering the Valve Index asafp on Wednesday.

I am actually very surprised how little information has arisen, Valve have kept things very quiet. Really surprising given how open they were about Knuckles development. Reckon this was likely a courtesy to HTC, Pimax, etc..

As it is now, I think I have accepted a 1440 / 1600 resolution though I am disappointed by it. And if the FOV has significantly increased as rumoured then this won't look sharp, especially when compared with recent WMR headsets. Seen elsewhere people claiming Valve's optic magic means the resolution just won't be so important and I'm not buying it. Whatever optical trickery they have going, more resolution simply makes for a better picture.

Also really surprised we've not had any info of the three games Valve are apparently working on. If/when I have an Index on my face, if I'm simply digging through my existing game collection to see how things have improved then that won't last long and I'll be back into new flat screen games. I need new hardware and new software!

Currently I think I'll be reading intently but not reaching for my credit card on Wednesday. Of course that position may change very quickly!

All that said, the recent buzz of hype and enthusiasm for VR thanks to speculation and excitement of the Valve Index has been very welcome. In my view, this has done far more for VR adoption than any mainstream attempting Facebook HMD.

Only hope it can live up to expectation.

not sure how you can say a device we know nothing what so ever about has already done more than a company who have released the best selling PC VR HMD on the market, and have funded some of the best VR titles money can buy and are about to release a newer streamlined and generally improved device.

Valve has done very little for VR imo, i am glad they are releasing index and may end up buying one, but for me the jury is still out on them imo.... after years and years of just taking money from other peoples work it is beyond time for them to step up.

Valve will be the first HMD manufacturer that can take on Oculus head on. HTC had to mark up the Vive to make a profit as do Pimax with the 5k/8k. Valve on the other hand have no such restrictions. Index can compete on every level including price. Valve can knock off the retail profit and the manufacture profit in the same way Oculus has done over the last 3 years with the Rift in order to secure market share.

On the flip side Oculus has gone to Lenovo which like HTC will need to make a profit on the Rift S so price cuts are far less likely.

Wednesday we will see if the Index ticks all the boxes with 2k per eye with edge to edge focus, 135FOV and eye tracking built in. That’s my guess. A no compromise HMD that rewrites the rule book of HMD design.

I’m still expecting the full Index package to be £799 but if it’s over £1000 I’m more than happy to keep the Pimax for another 12 months and just get the Knuckles. Unless that is the reviews of the Index are so glowing they convince me its worth the extra £££.

Only two days to go before we find out. Exciting times.

Oh I still think Index has one feature we’re not yet aware of until Wednesday.

I'm referring to the last month only. In the places I frequent the buzz around the Valve Index has been immense! The general VR buzz has been quiet for a while up to then. Not at all well stimulated by the Facebook or WMR HMD announcements.

Agree that a longer term contribution is still to be made and judged.

I hope you are right in all the above.
That said, (i cut the last bit off for tidyness) but am not sure how you equate valve competing with RiftS on price as equating to £799 for the package.  that is 100% more expensive.
we shall see..

I would not say i am excited....... but am really interested!.
I am fairly satisfied with my CV1 for now so i will be waiting for dust to settle on all the new hmds. i have no need to make any rash decisions

While the index will no doubt be a nice headset, it’s not going to do much for mainstream vr adoption.

Oculus have that tied up if the market themselves a little better.

I agree, while I'm interested in the Valve effort, and am willing to pay more for the best experience I can't be bothered with lighthouses etc. The camera tracking solutions of oculus and Windows appeal far more.
