Engineering wise, it is impressive and I could see this working for my needs (I've always loved phablets, currently sporting a Note 8 256gb). Seems practical if the app developers get on board. Would have loved to see a stylus.

But that price! I always said that the Note 8 would be the last phone I'd spend circa £700 on. I just can't part with that amount of cash and it is crazy how quickly after the furore of setting the latest price hike that the public slowly accepts it (I remember when everyone complained about the Nexus 6 being £499... Oh for new devices to be that price now).

Maybe future generations and economies of scale will drive prices down but I haven't seen it for previous handsets. Wonder if the mobile bubble is going to burst...

Reading some of these comments, it sounds like some of you would prefer there not to be any new innovations in technology! There has to be a first, for everything we now take for granted. Or maybe we should have stuck with dial up internet?!

I don’t think it’s that sunny
Personally there’s no way I’d shell out £1500 for this as it does no more than the tablet and phone I have.
We’ve probably all set a ceiling for ‘upgrading’
Mine has been £300 for a few years.
I sell my old model and buy a nearly new one.
I always saw a bit of benefit too though when I did - leap in camera, bigger screen, etc
I still have my 7  though as I see no reason to upgrade.
The 8 was a nothing change, the x on is where the £ just went stupid in my eyes.
I guess there isn’t really a lot they can do and that’s the problem ...
OLED, hdr, wireless charging, camera tweaks - all nice but no one has done anything to solve a solid day on one charge doing whatever you want and the return to glass just means a better case for most people and more chance of cracking your phone!

Might just be me in my late 40s getting grumpy old man syndrome!
Hard to see the need to have a change again this year ...

I had been quite excited by the prospect of this but am i the only one thinking that this is quite an ugly, chunky looking device? Impressive tech certainly, but not for me just yet. Have gone for the S10  but fully expect sleeker, sexier foldable phones to be the high end norm in the next 3-5 years.

I think you are missing the point. No one has said the technology doesn't have merits. It's just that the product doesn't really know what it wants to be. What would be cool (in my opinion) would be if they took the size of their largest phone and folded that in half. Then you could have full functioning phone and a small compact form/screen that showed notifications similar to smart watches etc... kind of a clam shell design from the past, but with tech from today, except you could then have a bunch of accessories and use it like a GoPro. That would sell like hot cakes as it would be providing 2 products in 1 and opening sales channels into the action cam markets. But no, they realease a big impractical smart phone that folds out into a small impractical tablet.

I'm off to the patent office in the morning....

The tech I want is a phone which has a screen which can be rolled out like a scroll. Imagine your current phone but having the screen width tripled or quadrupled to read maps, show a photo or watch a video.

Question? Why is this even being discussed on a website supposedly all about Audio/Video Home Entertainment!
