Samsung Galaxy Fold ... wow

This is the start of a new generation of foldable tech. All phone makers will be looking to develop their own model and in a few years I wouldn't be surprised for this to become the new normal.  It only looks clunky in comparison to how slim and sleek phones are, give it time and we'll all have one. I didn't expect to see one of these just yet, well done Samsung.

I agree - well done Samsung.

First generation products aren't usually that great but by gen 3 they will hopefully become thinner / lighter and with better aspect ratio (and cheaper of course, even if it remains in the luxury sector).

I really hope they sell enough of these to keep them going and further develop the idea.

I do like it but I’d rather drop the coin on a separate phone and tablet.

Spending that much for essentially a less robust 7.3” tablet with a second 4.6” screen that could have multiple points of failure and is less pocketable seems crazy.

I want to be able to slip my phone in my pocket, and IF I think I’ll need a tablet, take it in a bag. I don’t want to go back to my childhood with a bumbag round my waist!

I look forward to seeing just how many “hundreds of thousands of times” the hinge will really manage in the real world, (especially once someone’s kid gets hold of it), and how well the laminated screen stays attached to the chassis, not to mention the wear on the OLED panel as the pixels decay across the fold point.

I think I’ll stick with a separate phone and tablet that do their respective jobs better . (Until I get sucked into the hype when Apple release a folding phone / tablet combo in a couple of years )

Give it five years, Apple will do it, it will cost even more, and it will be a must have item as it has an Apple logo on it.

Cool 1st gen tech, would love to have a play with one (I can't get my head around how the opened screen has no visible crease) but no way would I buy one.

At the end of the day this phone is not for everyone; however kudos to samsung for pushing the boat!! it's a great concept and will appeal to many people as we move further and further away from desktop and even laptop machines.

It's not perfect but it's the step in a new direction in a very stagnant phone market.

No, because at 7.3”, it’s barely bigger than a great deal of smartphones.

Good to see companies coming up with new things but folding smartphones are a long, long way off replacing the likes of the iPad or Android equivalent. Especially not this 1st gen effort.

This phone is the perfect example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

You’re right duff ...
Too small to use as a phone
Too small to use as a tablet
It’s going to need to be dual fold to get a tablet of useable size along with the slim bezel we’ve all become used too for phone use
I see it having the depreciation of a 1990s skoda!
