I would not blame 4A for that decision. Steam have been taking a 30% cut of sales until recently which they recently dropped to 25%. Steam has been around for over 15 years and they are the one stop shop for games and is a behemoth of a portal. It's a great platform.
Epic did stuff their UK pre-orders customers as they could not offer the discount and it's £49.99. However, Epic have been pretty transparent saying they will only take 12% of sales of any games on their portal. I get that the launcher for Epic has a way to go yet and has teething problems but it is new and I feel that competition is a good thing. Nobody will get it right first time especially this day and age.
If the devs are getting 13% more revenue which they can put back into the game that has to be a good thing. I admit some devs could be greedy but the Metro franchise has been fantastic so far (and I love the books).
I totally get why you're annoyed but I don't think Epic is the ogre. I want devs who work hard and produce great content to earn their money and not give it to a platform provider. |
