I've worded that poorly, I think. You can fly down to the surface, but from the footage I watched earlier it seems as if you can't point your nose down and get low enough to be flying just off the deck. Until seeing that I'd just assumed that you'd control your ship in a similar manner to games like Elite Dangerous, etc.

I find it amazing that  2 people have already met,  considering the odds, and especially after less than 1 day.
Game looks fun from the streams I have seen,  but could get boring after 10 hours or so,  as the game play isn't all that varied.   One for the sales I think.

Yeah, they could not see each, but - considering there are meant to be 18 quintillion planets, how small must the % be to meet another player at all, let alone within 12 hours of the game being released.  Maybe the world is small than we thought?

was reading on another forum that a few streamers were intentionally trying to meet, and managed to get on the same planet, but it didn't work. they were streaming it on youtube. may be the same one you are referring to.

if that is the case, then perhaps the game is not as random as the developers have suggested....

Or maybe everyone is just spawned in at the same starting point.

Someone also posted on Twitter that they had found some named planets within 12 hours as well.

Why have 18 quintillion planets if everyone is going to start around the same area?  makes no sense.

Yet to be confirmed, but I think there's a fixed "seed value" that everyone uses. The hardware will use this seed to generate everything on the fly but because everyone's using the same seed, you'll get the same experience. I think the only online stuff involves discoveries.

Would have thought everyone would then be bumping into each other pretty quickly if that were the case? (just camp at the spawn point)

But seriously, I thought I read somewhere (or concluded for myself) that the "multiplayer" aspect only extended as far as sharing the online naming database and that you wouldn't actually run into other players?
