easily doable.

for instance a packet containing just two steaks can cost nearly a tenner and thats good enough to feed only two adults.

a packet of chicken thighs comes up to around a fiver and just enough to entertain 2-3 people. all adds up tbh.

Basicaly you average around £50 per adult. i spend £50 on myself, sometimes a bit more.

It depends on the food you eat. Yea if you eat canned baked beans for dinner and cup noodles you can spend £50 for the whole family but if you eat good quality healthy adventurous food like steaks, Porks, Lamb, fish etc expect to pay the price so to speak

I disagree. I spend nowhere near that kind of money on food and have only fresh quality produce. However, it is only fresh quality produce. If it is prepared it is the whole fillet of an animal and I'll cut it up myself.

But ultimately it just depends on what you buy and how much you eat. Man when I saw the photos in the drunk food thread I couldn't eat that much in a week.

125g of protein base food with two veg doesn't cost much at all.

Another tip, venison has much more flavour than beef, is leaner and much cheaper.

Do you throw a lot away? I tend to use a lot of lentils and pulses to bulk my dishes out ie curry, spaghetti Bol and chili etc so I only spend half what you do for a family of 4 with one a veggie and me with coeliacs disease. (Tend to cook everything from scratch so we know what's in it).

I have been doing a lot of the shopping lately and we are spending less.
When my wife goes she buys to many easy option's. An example is the stuff for the kids lunches, pre made and individually packed item's and very costly.
I will go and buy a load of fruit and chop it up and put it into bags. If my daughter want's a stick of cheese in her lunch box I will cut a piece off and wrap it.
I will make up a batch of Tuna and salad cream for their rolls.
I also buy the bigger packs of stuff like sugar, eggs, potatoes, Coffee, Tea bags, loo roll etc which saves going so often.
And when the shops have a really good offer on something I use a lot I will buy as much as possible, Spend now save later sort of thinking.

Costco. A whole fillet from Bambi's mum is about £26 depending on the size of the deer. Slice it in medallions or tournedos when bought and freezer bag them and there are lots and lots of meals from it. My children absolutely love it. And such lovely lean and flavoursome meat.

Make a little cranberry and port sauce from the meat juices. Yummy.

55 a week average (usually 44, sometimes 70, Christmas 85!) in Aldi a few quid in Farm foods, one or two top up visits to Lidl per week averaging extra £8. 2 adults and children 2 and 3. Probably total £65, but kids don't eat much (in fact we're all pretty small people).

I'd like to shop more at greengrocers and local butchers though.

Not much food waste. We don't eat sugary foods but that does include a few beers and a bottle of wine.

All shopping other than the main shop on bike or on foot.

I can't get my head around some of these £££££££££££££s spent on food, does it depend on where you live, how much you earn, or are some people not on a food budget and just wasteful?.

Ours is total, not just food. Thought £17 a head a week wasn't excessive. Probably need to drink less
