How much quicker do you need to go to be in with a shout of Kona?

how does your 10k time off the bike in an oly distance compare to your 10k pb? and hm in a 70.3? that would tell more than a pure marathon time. i know a couple of lads that have gone >10 mins faster than that for marathon pb that are still trying to punch kona tickets.

I reckon at some races (u.s.) a 9:30 would get you kona.

Last year I ran a 38 off the bike which was the last Oly I did and was running a 37:13 PB. I've run 34:52 10k this year and as for Half ironman, I've only ever had one good run as either been injured or nutrition issues so not too sure.

Personally I think kona is very unlikely (although the race that got cancelled for me in Maryland last year, they halved the swim when they re-ran it a couple of weeks later and that would of been interesting) but I think half ironman is more within the realms of possibility if I can get the nutrition right.

Kona qualification for men at any age is tough. A friend just got qualification for the 70.3 world's in Australia in Stafford the other week and he is not that much quicker than me. So that should be possible.

One thing with Stafford specifically is that as the Australia race is in a few weeks, the roll down was like 20 people in the age group. It's definitely easier but I'm not sure I would take a long roll down, if you are top 5 and get a roll down then great.

I remember at Stafford if you earned and wanted the slot in Oz you had to turn up for the presentation with your credit card...

That is the same for kona slots as well. You have to be there and accept at the time.

How's the training going guys?

Weekly countdown now into single figures and when someone asks when your event is, gotta start saying "next month" (gulp!)

Training ramping up but going well. 100miles on bike last weekend. Same this weekend with a 20min run straight after.
