Sorry, but I had to aim for something and your time was close to my target time

Your time was looking good for the first few miles though.

My next HM isn't until February though so you've got time to get me back. However, it's in Brighton (along the sea front mostly) so as it will be lashing it down and freezing cold knowing my luck, I may be in a hurry to finish

Hi folks

The missus is into her running an dim thinking of getting her a half decent pair of running shoes (not too expensive) for xmas.

could anyone reccomend any

i heard her talk about a pair of asics but cant mind which ones?

Running shoes are quite a personal thing. You may be best off going with her and trying some on then getting them when she's not around.

I'm not sure I'd be too pleased if someone bought me running shoes, unless they were a replacement for some I already wore / liked.

Asics will do several different styles and for various gaits so you've no chance of guessing which ones will be suitable

What he said. Asics are great trainers for some, awful for others. And even within the same brand - there is plenty of choice.

My advice would be to get her into a running shop and fitted for some properly. Well worthwhile.

Yup, it's pointless spending that aount of money without getting a fitting or knowing what you need. Part of the reason Asics and the like are so expensive is because of the way they're specific to certain gait/running styles. If you don't buy the right ones it's at best a waste of money and at worst possibly injury-inducing. When I started running I was led to believe that everyone over-pronated, and it was only when I did myself an injustice by going over on my ankle that I learned I was one of the few who under-pronate.

If you're anywhere near Cheshire Oaks, you can get a fitting and some great deals on Asics stuff at their outlet. I was there a couple of weeks back, the staff were very good.

COUCH TO 5K COMPLETED

It all started back on July the 18th with a struggle to complete eight 1min runs between 1.30min walking and today i completed week 9, run 3 and hit the magic 5k mark on my very final run.

The final week first run didn't start too well, my initial pace was way to quick and the run ended disappointingly after 25min over which i covered 4.4k

Run 2 of the week and i was determined to ignore the distance and just run 30min i had to. I came so close though as the final distance clocked in at 4.97k

Today and the final run. I knew if i kept my pace under 6min/k i would hit the 5k distance and i did. In fact i was just over at 5.08k with a pace of 5.56/k

So going from a non runner to this i can only recommend the program to anyone who want to get out there and build fitness.

And now onward i go to try and get up to the 10k mark ready for the Great Manchester Run next may.

I have even joined the local gym to try and build core strength and add some swimming to the mix

Apart from getting to 5k and 30 minutes of running, you've stuck with it through the whole program.

That's the spirit, thinking of 10k in the same post Getting to that by May shouldn't be a problem. If you stick with running, you should make it with months to spare.

That 10k also give you a reason to stick with it, so just make sure you keep posting in here.
