Just my opinion but a good gin doesn't require any garnish. Brockmans is my favourite it has all the flavours there. For a cheap everyday gin I drink portobello road. But I do work for a vintners so get a nice discount.
We do brew our own sometimes but that does need the garnish to give it flavour.

I don't agree about the tonic I am afraid but we are all different. To me I save my good tonic for the cheaper less flavoursome gins but a good gin doesn't need 'sprucing up' with a good tonic. Just my opinion but I use Tesco own for the good stuff.

Gin is the only spirit I enjoy neat, but I also like a long GnT occasionally.

Gin doesn't need garnishes, but they can certainly enhance it.  Often they don't even add that much flavour, but we also taste with our eyes and it can have a perceptible effect.

Also depends on the gin; Brockmans is bursting with so much fruit it doesn't need anything (but I still usually use blackberries), and others such as Monkey 47 which are so overtly complex, simply don't benefit from any garnish.

Each to their own.

I try simple and also experiment with flavours and ingredients to perhaps find that really special taste that I will enjoy time and time again.

Wasn't too keen on the Bulldog and will be stocking back up on the Brecon.
