You don't have to do change over t led driver, led lamps will work on a 12 v transformer but the life of the lamp will greatly reduced

I think LED lighting is in the long run is far more efficient as it reduces the amount of energy you are using within the home and therefore cutting costs down, which is obviously very important! Although many may have issues with energy saving light-bulbs, the main being the time it takes for the brightness of the bulb to fully light a room! However I own a business and I decided it would be a good investment.  Not looked back! I would definitely recommend it.

You may want to read Dianne's only other AVF post then...

I'm seeing a pattern.

The Megaman Modo are the best Lamps that I have fitted. Generally fit the 4000k in bathrooms, awesome lamp and the cost is very reasonable.

So, they do 3 types, I've fitted all 3 but I think the 6000's (I think?) are a little too white.

I need to get round to ripping out all of my 12v Halogens in my own place and replace them with cheapish light fittings but whack the Modo's in as the lamp.

If you're looking for a very good Lamp then either the 2800k Modo's or the 4000k Modo's are exceptional lamps.

Changed 6x 50w GU10 halogen downlighters in a room with these from IKEA.
Can't really see a change in the brightness, so excellent VFM for £4, and cut consumption from 300w to 20w.
Warm white.

Had to change the dimmer to a normal on/off switch though.

Yeah the Ikea LED's aren't bad at all.

Funnily enough I was in Ikea Southampton yesterday and I picked some of those up. Not bad at all I must say.

Not as good as the Megaman Modos though but at that price you can't really complain.

I replaced 6 x 50W 240V reflector GU10 lamps in the kitchen (on a ceiling mounted fitting) about 2 years ago with two types of "eco" lamps. 3 were from Megaman (9W 78mA type BR1709 - not sure if these exact ones can still be bought though) and 3 from EXRGI (type XG4WW-E). The missus wasn't too pleased when they were switched on for the first time but then 300W of halogen light beaming around the kitchen reflected off white cupboards was hard to compete with! Anyway, things have settled down and they are now seen as "normal". The Megaman lamps take a couple of minutes to get up to their full brightness after switching on and the EXRGI are full brightness straight away. The overall kitchen brightness is less than it was but it is still bright enough.

I have now started to look at replacing some G9 halogen lamps (40W 240V capsule) on a dimmer in the living room and bought 2 of the Megaman dimmable 4W G9 LED warm white lamps (via Amazon).

So far I've received one of the lamps and had it in the lamp holder for about 4 hours and it's already dead!
I did notice the lamp was quite warm / almost hot.

The first comment I would make is that the light is not all-round light (as compared with the glass capsule type) but is more focused at the top end, which is obvious when looking at a diagram of the lamp but was slightly surprising for me at switch on. The second comment was the missus didn't notice. Third comment was the dimming was fine and seemed linear.

When I receive the second lamp (this Monday I hope) I'll fit that into the holder and see how that performs. Hopefully, the second one will be fine and I'll only have to return one of them.

Does anyone else have any experience with these dimmable LED lamps from Megaman? I think they're only quite new on the market so maybe there's not so much known about them.

You must use a specific LED dimmer with LEDs.

I've not used te dimmable LED's yet but will probably use the Modo's when I do.

I think the dimmable aren't quite perfect yet.

I bought a GU10 little ikea light on Friday and put some Modos in there (the 2800k ones) and I have to say that they are very, very good.

Was in my cloakroom though so didn't want anything too powerful.

I've been through a fair amount of brands of LEDs and am now settled on these. Normally fit the 4000's in my bathroom installations as the light is whiter.

I'd say the equivalent lamp in the likes of B&Q/Wickes would be over £20.
