The helpline seems to have been busy.

Seems on their own Powerpoint they call themselves a group.

"Department for Education Due Diligence and Counter Terrorism Extremism Group.

Julian Butcher - Head of Regulatory Framework Unit

First PDF was from their government site.

Preventing extremism in the education and children's services sectors - GOV.UK

Regarding the Powerpoint the "Channel" process comes up. Something that has been on here before.

Another monstrous beheading by ISIS

"First, radicalisation. I’ve already explained how we have reformed the Prevent programme, but - as I have said before - there is always more to do and we need to go further. So we will legislate to put Channel - the existing successful programme for people at risk of radicalisation - on a statutory basis to improve the consistency of its delivery and ensure the participation of all the appropriate organisations.

We will also place a statutory duty on named organisations - such as schools, colleges, universities, the police, prisons, probation providers and local government - to help prevent people from being drawn into terrorism. So for example universities will have to put in place extremist speaker policies and prisons will have to show they are dealing with extremist prisoners in an appropriate way. The organisations subject to the duty will have to take into account guidance issued by the Home Secretary. Where organisations consistently fail, ministers will be able to issue directions to them - which will be enforceable by court order."

On the Powerpoint this is Slide 16 of 30.

"Channel – what is it?

Programme to provide support for individuals who are vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism
It is entirely voluntary for the person being offered support, and is not a criminal sanction in any way
Programme has existed in every local area in England and Wales since April 2012 Administered through multi-agency panels at local level
Panels are chaired by local authorities and supported by police
Panels will have representatives from a number of agencies, including health, education, housing, social work
As well as providing an opportunity for individuals to receive statutory support they may be entitled to, Channel also can (uniquely) provide theological or ideological mentoring"

There's quite a bit on there. Not much use if you can't read Powerpoint though.

He is a professional contrarian, he's intelligent and articulate and has definitely made strong arguments for his views in the past. However at some point he came to the realisation that the more over the top and provocative he could make his positions by pandering to the far right/slating the far left, the more people lapped it up, and since then it's been harder and harder to separate the intentional winding up from the anti-authoritarian rhetoric - now its merged so much that everything he says sounds like a parody. Perhaps why he likes Trump so much, they have that in common.

I don't know if people are following the furore in Canada with respect to a bill updating their human rights act, but there is a professor (Jordan Peterson) at the centre of a load of controversy due to his views about it - his arguments are very much related to the concept of free speech and how artificial censorship (daring not to say things for fear of people taking them the wrong way) is ultimately very damaging.

He was on Dave Rubin (sound is a bit poor because Rubin is in the middle of building a new studio, it's not usually that bad) talking about it - skip forward to around the six minute mark for the start:

And his university allowed a debate to be held which I'm in the middle of watching:

(Really good arguments made on both sides, but ultimately the arguments against him are right insofar as why the changes work within the system, while his argument seems to be that the system itself is the problem - so ne'er the twain shall meet.)

No free speech?????
How about these two....One a place..speakers corner.
The second a person.
Was his name Chowdary ..something like that.??
The first no one cares what you say, and about whom.
The second brands you as racist for attacking his  free speech to radicalise people to kill us all. No one stopped him spouting.
But I'm not a racist.
But because I've said what I just did I'm judged and found guilty.
Yet even the government were afraid of stopping his free speech...even though we all might have died if everyone that listened and believed him and actioned his wishes.
While I dare not mention Gollies, or black puddings anymore, even though they were part of my childhood....ohhhh forgot, that's free speech I can't use anymore, although it was in children's learning to read books at school.
Should there not be a transition period for this sort of thing?
So yes, well no,....
I'm bloody confused by it all to be honest.
It's a wonder we won the war......
Ohh dear, there I go again...
A racist and warmonger.....

It wasn't a problem till the SUN decided to stop all the naked women on page three.
That's when the decline started and every student moved to the Guardian.
I hope this helps.

The paradox of the old and confused. I want to say or write something, but I believe I'm not allowed to mention it as someone has decided it's not appropriate or acceptable, then I mention it, then I complain I'm not allowed to mention it even though I've mentioned it, so I complain I'm being censored. Funny how I never see anyone call for laws on anti-semitism to be repealed. It's almost always to do with brown people and their religions.

Ultimately, don't be such a coward, stop complaining about not being able to say what you want to say, say it/write it/post it and let the rest of us either support you or call you out on it. But don't whinge if people call you out on it.

That doesn't even warrant a proper response in the context of this thread. By the way, "Your daughter was on Page 3 today and has nice fun bags", might be something I'd possibly say to you if it were the case. I hope you're not offended by that

Where does breast feeding in public stand on your radar of what bothers you about the modern world?
