A pay freeze for 4 years now? Possibly longer. Huge changes to our pensions, working conditions etc etc. No wonder there aren't enough teachers.

We now pay more for supply teachers than we would for permanent, with agencies raking in the cash. Crazy situation to be in.

Funny how the Private sector advocates are quiet over this.

If a Private Sector business was struggling to recruit staff they'd either have to improve salaries or working conditions or both. The Government have done the complete opposite.

In good news...

Edexcel RS GCSE is still in draft. They've had feedback in the latest submission, and the issues are minor and confined to assessment questioning, not course content.

In other words, with just 20 school days until the new term, I've finally found out what I'll be teaching.

Well done.

In Primary we know what we're teaching, but we don't know how the children are going to be assessed. The Government are moving to their THIRD assessment system in three years at some point in 2016-2017. There's an awful lot of money to be made in that for certain people.

Teacher numbers at lowest since 2013, official figures show - Teacher numbers at lowest since 2013

Who could have predicted this?

It's a massive shambles and I would suggest the next big stick to be used to beat the government with unless something drastic is done.

Shocking ineptitude by the current government. The 1% won't care as they can afford private education. The knock-on effects on society won't be felt for years and then it'll blamed on individuals rather than a system designed to fail.

I don't think the current crisis is less bad (poor english, I know ) than previous ones.  I don't recall (but am happy to be corrected) such shortages after the first term of the last Labour Government, for example.

IMO, the current Government has a whole raft of ill-thought out measures and ideas that have muddled the system up so much, it's almost conspiratorial.  Free schools, not clamping down on religious schools, acadamisation, re-introducing grammar schools, messing about with the curriculum and qualifications standards.

I don't think we've ever seen such a disregard for a public service in British history. At least one that the government didn't (officially) want to privatise/eliminate.
