A romantic view. The wording you use 'stamp down' indicate your own intolerance.

Unfortunately religions and other beliefs, in addition to the intolerance and prejudice of politics, ensure conflict will continue worldwide.

'stamp down' isn't my own wording, it's in reply to Cliff's post and the comment:

"In the UK, where we have immigrants and religion that have brought in anti-Semitism, it must be stamped down on. We also have Islamic schools supported with Arab money and we must not turn a blind eye to what is being taught in these schools." - Cliff

With regards to whether my notion of attempting to 'stamp down on' all intolerance and prejudice as being a 'romantic view', I would say it's a never ending goal we should be striving for.
Put simply, the longer we allow and ignore some and not all prejudice and intolerance* in the public space, laws, national and international politics the longer we will have to endure unecessary conflicts, tensions and despair simply because of a lack of trust, honesty and fairness.

* I am not interested nor an advocate of any sort of 'thought police' or taking things to the nth degree in terms of hurting anyone's precious feelings. If you have views or ideals that are what is legally considered 'prejudice' then you should not be persecuted or otherwise harassed if you keep them to yourself and within your own private home or space.
Just that in schools, organisations that use any public buildings or funding, businesses, transport, politics, the courts or other public area, that the rules and regulations on what is considered racism, sexism, homophobia etc that they are applied equally and to all, regardless of whom happens to be saying or doing it.
If it is okay to say some thing up to a certain point, that point should be the same regardless of whom it is directed.

A significant amount of posters on here are seemingly very anti religion, when that religion happens to be not the one they belong to or have issues with.

PS, please don't pray for me .... if I die and find there is a God, I want to be able to say that at least I wasn't a hypocrite

- I refuse help and assistance from Christian based charities even though I do need help. Not because I don't like or am prejudiced against them, but because I feel it would be hypocritical to take money or items donated in good faith by people who believe in something I criticise.
(I am critical of the beliefs not the individual people)

If people are offering you help in "good faith"  then I think refusing to except it due to self-perceived higher principles is simply a variant of misplaced superiority if not snobbery.   Do yourself a favour and accept it, but justify it on the grounds that you are better than them and can accept help from whomever offers it whether people of faith or not.

One is mindful of the Parable of the Good Samaritan where a beaten man is helped by someone who he was brought up to despise

You refuse help from Christian based charities, BUT you will accept help from a Christian based government in the way of benefits etc.

Now come off it old boy your a hypocrite, and hung by your own petard.

I am not turning down help offered to me as in someone coming to my door with a bag of groceries and me saying "No thanks you are a Christian".

I am loathed to accept charity anyway as it feels demeaning, embarrassing and undeserved when I consider people with far more problems than myself.
My support worker offered to ask some local charities for help with things like a fridge freezer because mine is 20 yrs old at least, the seals don't have any spring left in them and it's got broken shelves etc. I simply feel that if I have to get help I would prefer not to take it from charities that collect donations on a faith based platform because it makes me feel additionally hypocritical on top of everything else.
It's not matyrdom, I just can't help but feel it's wrong and unfair to take advantage of the generosity of those who's faith and beliefs I am critical of.
