And you are too young to remember the Thatcher and Major years. Mass unemployment, 15% interest rates on your mortgage then house prices went throught the celler, business closures daily, the miners strike.

That's pretty irrelevant, considering the ongoing change in personnel with parties
- Osborne probably hadn't popped a cherry (apart from his own) when Thatcher left office, doesn't mean he couldn't be a good chancellor ... oh, wait

Would be even less relevant if it was a presidential set up

When they go canvassing in the run up to the Election they note down who has stated that they will vote for them.  As you go in they note your card against their lists of people who promised to vote for them. When it gets towards the end of the day if they see that people who promised to vote for them haven't yet they will turn up at your house and offer you a lift to the Polling Station.

i.e. if you are in a Lib Dem/Tory marginal seat and want to vote Lib Dem, promise the Tory candidate your everlasting support, don't go there, and they will come and give you a lift to the Polling Station to vote for the other party

Dave

To get an idea of how many people have voted so that they can rouse out their supporters to vote if it's a low turn out.

This is the whole problem though with basing your politics on history.  Most people in life who've been around long enough have good decades and bad decades.  I don't recall the 90's being a problem personally, but then I kept my job and it was a bit to early for me with regards buying a home.  Have house prices not gone through the roof under labour then, more worrying I think they've got to a point now where there's no chance of them coming down again either.  15% interest rates on a mortgage was bad times I agree, would have been fine under labour though.  We'd probably all still be stuck renting not owning our own.

I agree completely. Lib Dems have very little chance of winning in Portsmouth North.. but I believe the Liberal Democrats are the best of the main three, and I hope a lot more do to!

I'd really hate myself if I voted Conservative as a tactical measure to get Labour out - their majority is less than 100 votes in this area - and the Lib Dems missed out by one vote... my vote.

Here's hoping enough people will vote Lib Dem and they win - both in my area and nationally.
