The problem with the whole abortion issue in the US is that widespread access to abortion was brought in without any consent from the electorate or their representatives. It was imposed by a decision of 9 unelected judges - so anything imposed by them can also be overturned by them.

A balance should be the ideal but then again, when the appointments are tainted by politics (of whatever hue or view), there's little hope of that.

What you guys over the pond wish for your supreme court or not is out of your hands, effectively, isn't it?  You don't choose them and their associated politics and beliefs, do you?

Where do you stand personally on abortion rights?  I'm for freedom of choice up to 20 weeks and beyond that only on strict medical grounds, for example where to go on would knowingly risk the life of the mother.

All appointments to the SC are political - it is a political court. Trump is doing nothing different from all previous Presidential appointments.

So you're pro-choice which is the delegation of responsibly to each individual woman to choose for herself?  Surely that is the default position and the one most in line with the US core ideology of personal responsibility and small government.

Only those with strongly held negative views on abortion would advocate for the state to overstep onto personal liberty.
