quite safe, just politically it's Tea Party Republican
-  often called Teabaggers as a pee take, based on a sexual act ... you didn't think I meant it was not "safe" because of that did you?

Most of the people that I associate with are religious and I have failed to find one person supporting IS. It's just that IS are so extreme that words fail to describe them.
There is certainly support for getting rid of IS but the concern is one for civilians. Both Assad and these groups have killed thousands of civilians and now they are likely to suffer again.

They should not have been funded by allies of the U.S. in the first place.

Did you read her resignation letter?  I would have resigned as well.  Video of things blowing up on the news will make people feel better but won't achieve anything in the long run and of course it will be accompanied by video of dead civilians posted by ISIS.   I know it's a cliché but that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.

Let's not pretend we are doing this because the government are shocked by people being beheaded otherwise we'd be bombing Riyadh where this year they have beheaded people for crimes such as 'sorcery'.

Its odd to think that the UK Government was on the side of ISIS last year and ready to help ISIS take the fight to Syria and Assad. I'm lost for words too in the turn around.

I've certainly heard of Imams from across the UK as well as community leaders and other prominent Muslims, condem the capture and threats of Alan Henning, there was open letter for the papers and similar persons from muslim community on 5 live.

UK Imams call on 'immediate and unconditional' release of Alan Henning from hands of Isis - Home News - UK - The Independent

I am in no way saying the air-strikes will be effective. In fact I would err on the side of caution. On balance we should leave it to the powers in the region and the UN.

However, there is no doubt that ISIS is a big threat to stability in the region and should be stopped. MPs took a vote and it was passed.
No-one in their right might condones ISIS modus operandi and they have been condemned in all quarters.

The point about this particular MP resigning is that she is a Muslim. She has resigned because she feels solidarity with Muslims. Even though the area in question, i.e. the Middle east, is pretty much all Muslim and the fight was Muslim against Muslim (until we joined) she has chosen to make it a Muslim cause in the UK which is unwise, leads to splits in our society by making out the fight against ISIS is a fight against all  Muslims- which it is not.

Has she resigned because just she is a Muslim though you have just presumed that is her main reason and that had she been of a different (or no) faith she would have stayed in post despite the other reasons in her letter.

She raises genuine concerns about the proposed action and to her credit resigned as did Robin Cook in 2003 rather than do a Clare Short.

many of those so called scholars/leaders/Imams are fairly extreme themselves, their condemnation of ISIS over one type of hostage they approve of as a person really means sweet FA

Robin Cook and Clare Short were not just MPs. They were part of Tony Blair's inner clique.

Why didn't she just vote against and leave it at that? Resigning as a Muslim, representing a largely Muslim constituency gives the wrong message. Spelling it out, it was not because it would be a tactical failure or the other reasons mentioned, but this action is against Muslims.

That is loud and clear and I just hope it does not lead to the rise of more radicalism in east London,

...because of this thing called collective responsibility which whilst usually thought of in respect of the 'real' cabinet also applies to the shadow one.  If you publically don't agree with the line of the party/goverment then you should resign.

Also not sure I want to have MPs voting against their conscience (especially on issues such as whether to go to war) just because of the 'message' it may or may not send in the eyes of some people.
