No, the implication was that he had police officers assigned to him 24/7 until he died! Hence, why I said they would know when he farted.  It would not take much investigating of the allegations to pin him to down to particular whereabouts of interest.

I don't see my age as relevent, if this turns out to be a gay man seeking physical consenting contact of another adult Human and because of his position and the age he was in, felt it necessary to seek it paid, then that is very sad for him and reflects badly on our nation!

Of course your age is central to your position and reasoning in the discussion.
You should be aware it was never acceptable. It was seen as totally abnormal behaviour -as was being gay in the 1940/1950s.
